Chiara's Scribe Post 4th Quoter

I feel that I improved the way I put my post together. I learned how to use hyperlink and how to put in pictures. My grammar improved. I think that blogging helps when you miss the class. You can always go and look at the blog for an explanation. It can be used for sharig informetion and opinions. Blogging gave me practices with my english, and with writing in general, and it was good to hear other peoples' suggestion. I learned to give constructive criticism. Ilearned how to write a blog, which before I didn't know how to do.

Chiara's Scribe Post 4th Quoter

Tuesday 10th Science class

Hello everybody, Tuesday class was our last class to build the compound machine, I am writing  for the team of the Cookie monster!! The compound machine it's a big machine made of simple machine. There are seven simple machine.
Those are:
Incline plane
Screw
wheel and axle
pulleys
wedges
Levers
Gears

In this big machine there ere all of the simple machines or almost all of them, because there are no wedges. Wedges break things a part, and this machine there is no kind of thing happening. As you can see the roller is a inclined plane. The little wheels on the top of the inclined plane is a wheel and axle. At the top of the machine
there one screws build. In this machine there are also third class lever. But any thing is wouldn't work with out a pulley, infact the main thing wouldn't move, because the
pulley brings the ball up and it make it do every think again. In the middle of the class parents
came to see our machine. After in class came the 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade to see our machine.
When they came the room was really loud and every body was yelling: cool!!!
At some point Ms.D. told as to clean up all the pieces were left  on the floor,  and she ask as to test our machine before we would leave the room The Cookie Monster  machine worked well, because all four track worked; however, the Evil Elf machine
only two track of four worked well.
DO NOT FORGET to go and look at other post, ther is also interesting facts about simple machines!!!!
Here some links that can help:

The home work is to email Ms.D and to take notes. Make your blog comment, Which is due Friday the 20th, but that day we are in Swizerland.
Real life example: The  roller coster, refer to the ramp of the machine

Chiara's Reflection Post

I feel that I improved a lot from last quarter, but I feel that I need to improve
better my spelling, grammar, color chooise and go a bit further with the
science part. The benefits of the blog is that if you were absent you could go
and check on the blog to see what did you miss in class. Some times I didn't liked the blog because it didn't had spell check. Also I don't like to comment, but it is okey. I could also make my font bigger. Overall it was a nice science quarter.

Science class, Febuary 17

On Thursday, February 17, Ms.D. gave our quest back. We just finished the section on forces.

Just to remind us this is what we learned about:

Newton’s Three laws:

1) Inertia: Things that are at rest stay at rest, and things that are moving will keep moving unless another forces act on them.

2) Acceleration depends on the object’s mass and on the net force acting on the object.

3) Action and Reaction: If one object exerts a force on another object, then the second object exerts a force of equal strength in the opposite direction on the first object.

The other forces we learned about are: air resistance, gravity, friction, speed and velocity.

Another important law we learned about was the law of conservation of momentum, which says ‘that the total momentum of any group of objects remains the same, or is conserved, unless out side forces act on the object.

Then Ms.D. explained to the class the goal of our next lab. The goal is going to be making simple machines, and the surprise was that before this lab we are going to make our own super hero, Yeah (scream). We had to design and name a Science Superhero and how this super hero saved the day.

She recommended that his/her power had to be scientific and it had to have at least 5 Superpower. Some examples of his super power would be:

· Decreasing / increasing the speed of an object

· Changing the velocity (speed or direction) of an object

· Changing the friction between two objects

· Conserving / “losing” momentum

· Instantaneous temperature change ( + or -)

· Affecting the weight and gravity of a place

It wouldn't make sense to make a superhero in science class without having scientific powers.

Usually we find superheroes in cartoons, movies and books. But they don’t always use scientific superpower. A good example of a superhero is Superman. He flies in the air without any machine and the gravity doesn’t pull him down.

Our superhero must include laws and forces 0f science like the ones we learned about.

After Ms.D. showed as hers super hero, which she made it just yesterday. She told as that the super hero must be printed in color, and if we though we would lose our super hero she recommended to leave it with her. We went to the upper lab in till the end of the block. When we will came back from the break we will create or story of how our super hero saves the day.

Chiara's Reflection Post

Hi- In my post there were good and bad things. I could improve better my grammar and ask for help about the game. Reading every body comment I learn:

• Many sentence do mot make sense
• I could've more about balanced and unbalanced forces
• I should check my spelling better
• The labels were wrong
• Next time I will hyperlink every link
• some picture didn't have any think to do with it

What other people liked about my post:

• The good chose of color
• The Pictures

For next quarter I will improve all of this. I didn't do well the grammar, but I did it well the chose of color and not all the pictures. Next quarter I will improve the entire think that I listed that were bad. I think that the benefit of the blog is that when you are sick or you miss science class you can understand what they did. I didn't like the facts that you need to comment also grade 8th.

Science class,Tuesday,13,2010

Hello every body!!! I am going to talk about
the Science class that we did on Tuesday!! First!!!! We got back the quizzes and labs.

We started talking about different type forces (Unbalanced and balanced). Different type of friction and made 3 different forces diagram. There are two different type of forces, Unbalanced-force and balanced force. We also played the game with a cord, that a sort of people on one side and another from other side pushing. and more people were from one side and more force they had, less people pushing from the other side and less  force they had. Then we came back and draw three force diagram we draw our self on a line. Then all the type of friction, and explained how Gravity act  on an object moving. And what friction depend on??? Good question. First one thing THERE IS ALL-WAYS FRICTION every where you go, every thing you do there is friction. You make friction just sliding your hand each other,

Softly= less friction
Harder pushing= more friction
There are also many types of  friction for example;
  • The static friction (The biggest type of eve),
  • Sliding,
  •  rolling,
  • liquid and gas.

The balanced force is the equal forces a
cting on one object in opposite direction, like the picture below.

The unbalanced force is in motion an it push in two different direction, when the forces can't be equal like the picture below.

Friction: the force that two surface exert on each other when they rub  against each other.

Static friction: the acts on object that are moving.

Sliding friction: Is when  two solid surface slide over each other.

Rolling friction: Is when an object roll across a surface.

Fluid friction: Is when a solid object moves through a fluid.

Gravity: Is a force that pulls objects toward each other.
For home work you need to make three different force diagram, 1 stationary, and two moving. Remember always show where motion goes!!!!
