Today during our normal science block we started a new project, which was a lab, called "How Long Does It Take a Bean Bag to Drop?" The purpose of this lab was to see how the distance an object is dropped affects the time it takes the object to fall.
We dropped bean bags from different heights:
- the seat of a chair in the science lab
- top of the doorway
- two different heights of stairs.
We dropped the bag three times from each height. That was the fun part!
After we had finished dropping the bags and finding out the time, we had to graph the data we got and the find the average speed. To find the speed you divide the distance by the time. By this time class had already ended, so we finished the rest in the next class. I think that everyone agrees that this was one of the more interesting labs we have done so far. This class was a long class, but there isn't much to say because we only worked on our lab.
Useful definitions for distance, average speed and speed:
Distance: The extent of space between two objects or places.
Average Speed: The overall rate of speed at which an object moves; calculated by dividing the total distance an object travels by the total time.
Speed: The distance an object travels per unit of time.

This video is just to show how the project was done.

Hi Emilija,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I would like to point out that I could only read this post because I copied it into Word and changed the font - you have to check what font you use before posting! The post is brief but since you only worked on the lab during this class, it is good. I like that you included a picture, but I think you could also have included some scientific data and you could have included a formula for finding the average speed. Other than that, this is a good post, but you have to change your font as soon as possible!!
Ok, first, just like Viktor said, the only way I could read this was in a word document and changing the font. You should fix that. And also, like the last scribe post by Karin, under labels, you need to have "Scribe Post" typed. A suggestion might be to show how we calculated the average speed, and given an example with one of your drop test results. A good thing about this post is that anybody out of school can clearly understand what we did that day, and I like how you included four of the dropping places. Good post, but maybe next time you could include a picture!
ReplyDeleteHi Emilija,
ReplyDeletethis is the best post from now on, but there are a few LITTLE things that you could change next time:
1. When you check any scientific book you can notice titles and subtitles, which you don't have also you should have made small paragraphs.
2. You should have made a picture of a REAL bean bag, not fake pillows. Also under the photo there are no explanations.
3. It is too short lacking data and scientific terms for other students to understand and do at home.
4. You should have put a Bean Bag Drop Time Data Table with all the data.
5. You should have put links to Moodle so others can see it.
6. Your opinion is irrelevant for this post and you should have explained more what we did in class.
Hi Emilija!!! I think that your post could be more colorful and much more interesting to read. But I really liked that you used links and actually scientific vocabulary! Next time, please put a formula of a speed, distance and time, because that's what we are working on! And I would out more pictures than just a tiny picture of no-one-really-knows-what. But, otherwise, it was well written! Look, IT'S NOT SO BAD!!!
ReplyDelete:)
Oh, hey! I remember that lab! We couldn't figure out how to drop it from the top of the doorway. Oh well. Anyway, I know that you proabably don't know who I am, but I've heard of you and would just like to say that it was a great post!
ReplyDeleteEmilija - Much better this time around. You now have some more pictures and have included a helpful link to Moodle for your readers. The link to YouTube is funny, but not really helpful in understanding what the focus of our lab is - but I like the humor aspect. The video of what we did is a good addition, but would have been more appropriate if it showed the measuring from a site we actually used (the lab table, chair, doorway, etc) You have good grammar and spelling throughout and your font is a good size and color. I would like you to add the date of this class in the title though - Thursday is too general. Also, I am glad you included the definitions of those three words, but I think you could have given a bit more science in the background of what we were doing for class. Again, this is a huge improvement from your first post. ~Ms. D.
ReplyDeleteHey guys,
ReplyDeleteThnx for the comments, but the site for Moodle is there. Right over the Youtube site.
