Tuesdays Science Class

On Tuesday we had a long class, which was an hour and thirty minutes. At the beginning of the class we got our blog rubrics back to see how well we did on our comment. We discussed our 7th grade blog, as well as the 8th graders blog. When we were finished discussing about the blogs, we then talked about SCIENCE DAY! Science day will be this Thursday, tomorrow, and there will be viewers all the way from teachers, to our parents friends coming. We will show our viewers some of the labs we worked on this past school year, including the lab we just did, the Balloon Rocket Challenge. On Tuesdays class we also talked about a new topic, to us, and it is called Momentum. We discussed Momentum, the Conservation of Momentum, the Collisions With Two Moving Objects, One Moving Object, and With Connected Objects.
  • Momentum: is a characteristic of a moving object that is related to the mass and the velocity of the object.
  • Momentum=Mass *(times) Velocity or P=M *(times) V
  • More Mass= More Momentum
  • More Velocity= More Momentum
  • Momentum may be transferred from one object to another, but is not changed!
  • Conservation of Momentum states that, in the absence of outside forces, the total momentum of objects does not change. The amount of momentum is the same before and after they interact.
  • Collisions With Two Moving Objects= The impact of two moving objects
  • Collisions With One Moving Object= The impact with one moving object
  • Collisions With Connected Objects= The impact of connected objects
For homework, we have to answer the math sheet Ms. D. gave us at the end of class, and we have to finish writing the final design in the Balloon Rocket Challenge lab. At the bottom of the page there will be a link to moodle, in case anyone lost their homework sheet.

(The homework is the most recent thing on moodle, and will be highlighted in orange at the bottom of the page)

I hope you enjoyed reading my blog post, and hope that you learned something new!

  1. Courtney - Nice improvement from first quarter's blog post. You have covered everything we did in class, but not with enough depth. Good inclusion of the momentum notes, but you have nothing about the math and have not explained the collisions and how they work. I think you could have included Newton's Cradle - either a picture or a video - to help readers understand what momentum is more clearly. I like the picture you included, but there is no caption. Your spelling and grammar look good, but your labels are too vague. You did not include the date of the class and only have one link to Moodle. There are many other links out there about this topic that would be helpful. So there are improvements, but be careful about reading the rubric before posting. ~Ms. D.

  6. Hi Courtney,
This is an OK psot. It was good that you had different colors, a link to Moodle (although you could have added some others) and a nice diagram. I liked that you gave definitions for momentum, etc, but I think that a picture of a real-life example would have been good. You should also watch out for grammar; it's not "Tuesdays class", it's "Tuesday's class". Your labels are also done incorrectly; you need to have the topic of the class as one of the labels, not the day the class took place. It was great that you gave some info about Science Day, since it is a really big day for us. All in all, I liked your post!! :)

  7. Hi Court,
This post is OK, but I think you could do a better job on your post. I think next time you should put more links and pictures. And you didn't do your label right. And I think you could use more scientific words. Although it was good post

  8. Hi there Courtney,
This post is much better than last year's! You included and covered what we mostly did in class, but i thought it was a bit too general. You could have been a bit more thorough. I like your picture, and your link to moodle was helpful. I still think that you could have added some more pictures and a few more links to make your post more interesting to read. As Viktor and Ghazaleh already said, your labels are incorrect, and you should look out for grammar and spelling mistakes. Your font was ok to read, even though it was bent sideways, which made it look a bit weird...I don't understand why some you change from black to blue for only a little bit, and then changed back to black in the same paragraph. You also could have made more paragraphs, since your post is a bit hard to read. I think it was great that you added the notes we took in class! You could have explained Momentum a bit more in your own words, though. You also forgot to indent. Overall, I think that this is a great post, but it could be improved!
