- built with Knex
- took a quiz
For the quiz there is not much to explain so let me just get to the Knex building. For the first time we built with Knex, the girls and the boys were separated, we were to only build whatever came to our minds. And that was because we only had about fifteen minutes after the quiz. But later during the next class, Ms. D properly explained the whole project. We were separated into two groups, then we were given the task to came up with a team name. After that was done, we got our own box full of Knex parts.
When that was out of the way, Ms. D explained to us how we were going to build small simple machines to earn points.
The first step was to pick a simple machine off of a list she had given us. Next we were to build that simple machine with Knex parts the way a card showed us. when we finish building the simple machine we need to go to Ms. D and show her the machine. She needs to confirm that the machine is built correctly, and that it works. Then she will ask us a scientific question about that simple machine, If we answer correctly, we gain the number of points the simple machine is worth. We need to build a lot of small simple machines to get enough points to start building the bug multi simple machine knex construction. When the large knex construction is complete it should look something like this:
This is a project that the eighth graders did last year. They also had two teams and built the machine successfully. These are some pictures I found on their blog post.
If you want to read the post about knex last year, here is the link to last years seventh grade blog:
But on friday, Ms. D left for the CEESA Robotics competition so we had a substitute, Mr. Tim.
The next scibe is... Drum roll... David!!
The color part was supposed to be different
ReplyDeleteKarin - Your scribe post covers everything you needed to and is an improvement from last quarter. I do love that you linked to last year's classes blog and have shown pictures of them. Keep in mind you should be adding a caption to all pictures, not just some. I also think you could have found either the video from last year or one on YouTube that is related to K'nex. The science aspect of the scribe post is a bit lacking. You have not gone in depth about the simple machines you need to build or the types of questions that could be asked or what the quiz focused on. Remember the main point of the blog is to have science explanations of what we are doing. Don't worry about colors, they look fine. Overall, good improvement. ~Ms. D.
ReplyDeleteHi Karin,
ReplyDeleteThis post is much better than the one you did last quarter! I liked your pictures of us from last year! The things you could change are captioning all of the pictures, spelling K'nex right, add a more fun link than just to Moodle and last year's 7th grade blog. and explain what simple machines you had to build. Before the link to Moodle, you should say that it is a link to Moodle, not just put it there. You also need to put the date in your title. Other than that, the post is much better than last quarter! Keep it up! :)
Hey Karin
ReplyDeleteI think you did a great job on your pot. I really liked your pictures of the peaces of Knex and I think you explain what we did in the class very well. But I think you didn’t have to put picture of 7th grade then the last year 8th grade. And a bout the links I think you should really put something more fun then the ones you put. After all I think you improved allot form last time that you did your scribe post. :)
